Situation
In Uganda, approx. 57,000 children live in institutional care homes like orphanages which significantly impacts a child’s development & increases the likelihood of homelessness, suicide, & crime in later life. Poverty is one reason children are placed in institutions, making it crucial to address its underlying cause, strengthen child protection structures, & prevent child-family separation. Child's i Foundation works with the government to establish a safety net of protection for children.
Solution
Our dedicated Community Volunteers (CVs) play a pivotal role in building & fortifying community support networks & serving as a link between government-employed social workers and families. Through counselling, family visits, and monitoring, our CVs empower parents to give their children the best possible start in life while connecting families with essential resources and services. They actively contribute to the establishment of a comprehensive support system that safeguards families.
