The women farmers in this region cannot sustain their fish farming livelihoods & adequately feed their families, due to the neglected nature of their village ponds, lack of awareness, support, education & training. They have traditionally farmed fish in their village ponds. However, due to years of neglect & lack of knowledge, skills & tools to farm fish on a sustainable basis, they are therefore unable to earn a reasonable income with which to move their families out of poverty.

The women receive education & training in their villages to rejuvenate their ponds using organic inputs & grow healthy fish. They learn how to improve & keep the water quality, soil nutrients & the surrounding environment healthy so that the ponds become the source for a sustainable income. Expert fish farming experts provide guidance for seeding healthy, indigenous fish & how to look for poor water, soil quality or disease amongst the fish throughout the growing season to ensure a good harvest.
