Only around 8% of conductors at England's top orchestras are Black and ethnically diverse, versus 18% of the population. For many, conductors are the focal point of an orchestra: if we can nurture a new generation of diverse conductors, we can help transform perceptions of who classical music is by and for.

We'll seek out the country's most promising young Black and ethnically diverse conductors, and we'll offer them an outstanding package of opportunities to help develop their careers over 12 months: - The chance to conduct our professional orchestra - Coaching from accredited coaches with relevant experience - Opportunities to shadow internationally renowned conductors - Mentoring from more experienced conductors and other sector leaders - Meetings with agents and other industry figures
