Ashinaga teachers and staff help hundreds of orphaned children flourish each year in Uganda and Senegal. With your support, our teachers can become even better: upskilled through training courses and running extra sessions for the students who need them the most.

Children do not have the same access to education and opportunities around the world. In Senegal, only 3 in 10 children progress to secondary education; in Uganda, even fewer are in secondary school: 1 in 5. But even those in school are held back by poor education. In Ugandan secondary schools, only 15% of students are proficient in biology, 43% in English and 47% in maths. In Senegal, only 56% of the population are literate. Many of the schools are outside the formal education system.

Investing in teaching is the single biggest way we can improve the quality of education for the orphaned children we support. By upskilling teachers, you will improve not only the lives and education of the children they are teaching this year, but also all the children they will teach for the rest of their careers. The funds will be split between our Uganda and Senegal offices. They will be spent on courses for the teachers and to provide extra classes for the children who need it the most.
