This campaign will help match-fund the first year of our new five-year services project where we will expand the Ataxia UK Information, Helpline and Advocacy services, supporting the empowerment of people affected by ataxia and introduce our first mobile Ataxia Specialist Nurse in the South West.

Ataxia is an umbrella term for a group of rare & progressive neurological conditions. It affects coordination, balance, movement, & the muscles used for speech, listening, & vision. The challenges arise from slow diagnosis, limited access to specialised clinicians, treatment, & support. Inadequate information & services, along with disparities in availability, further impact the community.

Our 5-year project helps tackle these challenges. It will enhance the Information, Helpline, & Advocacy service by augmenting casework, advice, & advocacy support, expanding its reach and effectiveness. It will establish a mobile Specialist Nurse service, providing expert care & guidance to people with ataxia. It will help address the constraints of limited specialised care, insufficient information, & the requirement for accessible services for ataxia patients.
