We promote pilgrimage in Britain by developing and publicising new and old paths as well as the practice of pilgrimage itself. We aim to advance pilgrimage as a form of cultural heritage, open to all, bringing your own beliefs or none and supporting holistic well being.

People are disconnected from nature and rural areas are in decline. There is a need for powerful practices to assist with promoting mental health. Many are also disenchanted with modern exercise regimes. Walking in the countryside and urban centres has seen a resurgence but we feel that there is another dimension of purpose and inner exploration to add to the outer journey. There is also a need for a network of low-cost accommodation for one-night stays on long-distance journeys.
We will build routes, infrastructure and support for pilgrimage all around Britain; create a community to support the work of the BPT and other organisations by supporting them in return; communicate to create understanding, awareness and involvement and thereby make pilgrimage popular, with strong participation across Britain. Much of the core infrastructure is already in place - off-road footpaths, under-used churches, pubs and village shops. We plan to join the dots and promote it all.
