Help us create a new storytelling concert for young children. ‘Mendelssohn and the Moving Machines’ will combine the music of Fanny Mendelssohn with stories, props and songs about transport and travel, enabling children from primary and special schools to learn, imagine and play through music.

    Situation

Music is an essential part of a child’s early education and can have a powerful impact, from developing communication skills to boosting wellbeing and confidence. But for many children, particularly those experiencing disadvantage, the only way to engage with live music is through nursery or school – and not every school is able to access high-quality live music provision. Persistent budget cuts and a lack of support for non-specialist music teachers means that many children are missing out.

    Solution

Aurora’s storytelling concerts give very young children an immersive and joyful first experience of classical music, combining inspiring music performance with opportunities for participation and skills progression. We will create a new show and offer subsidised performances for primary and special schools, working with local music hubs to identify those who will most benefit. We will also create resources and deliver training to help teachers embed music in the classroom for the long term.
