As stigma surrounding period health is gradually reducing, we want to ensure that women and girls feel empowered when visiting healthcare professionals. Symptoms like severe pain and heavy bleeding can often be overlooked leaving patients feeling vulnerable and unheard. We want this to change.

Studies show that women and girls are less likely to be taken seriously and treated for things like severe abdominal pain, a symptom of several common period conditions. This means conditions go untreated, it also makes people reluctant to visit healthcare providers for help, developing a vicious circle. Women and girls deserve to be listened to and given the medical attention and support they need without discrimination, allowing them to live free from pain and heavy bleeding.

We will continue our work in raising awareness around period health and common gynaecological conditions that can leave women in girls suffering with chronic pain and heavy bleeding. Appointments for period health can be nerve-wracking, we want women to be prepared and confident. We will focus on creating resources to help women when they visit a healthcare professional which could include a symptom checker and a toolkit to help women approach their GPs with a letter that maps their symptoms.
