Situation
Sophia Brunel was a promising engineer in her own right - but unlike her famous brother, was denied entry to the profession due to her gender. While progress has been made in some areas, women are still severely underrepresented in engineering careers, with just 12% working in the industry. Girls and young women still face huge barriers when it comes to choosing STEM subjects that lead to engineering careers.
Solution
Our Sophia's Story programme will target young women in the early years of secondary school at a point where they are able to choose STEM-related GCSEs. We will create a brand new cross-curricular schools session. We will support 4 young women into the Stemazing Training Academy to build their confidence and skills to be role models. We will provide 5 local schools the opportunity to take part in these sessions for free.
