According to recent data, 37% of children and young people in GM are living in poverty. For those struggling to make ends meet, the holiday season can amplify the hardships they face daily. We have set an ambitious goal: to provide an additional 20,000 meals to children and families this Christmas.

In Greater Manchester, 37% of children and young people are living in poverty, the equivalent of a staggering 11 children in a classroom of 30. In the Manchester ward this figure reaches 44.7%. As the winter rolls in, rising fuel and energy bills adds another layer of difficulty for low-income or no-income families. Providing nutritious food becomes an increasingly daunting task, pushing more and more people into food insecurity.

We intercept and redistribute surplus food to a range of charity partners. Existing partners include food banks, soup kitchens, refuge centres and breakfast clubs. We will use the raised funds to provide additional support to our charities during the difficult winter months. We estimate that £1 is enough to provide 4 meals. Through collective effort, we can provide an extra 20,000 meals to people in need this Christmas.
