    Situation

Retina UK is a charity that invests in medical research to find treatments for inherited progressive sight loss, which is currently untreatable. The charity also supports the community and their families to live fulfilled lives. The challenges within the inherited retinal dystrophies community are unique; they have to deal with both visual impairment and the knowledge that their sight will continue to deteriorate. This is not just a physical challenge but also a huge strain.

    Solution

We have been funding medical research for over 45 years, and one treatment has emerged for a small proportion (0.3%) of those living with inherited sight loss. We will keep investing in research until treatments are available to all. We also bring the community together so that they realise they're not alone, have a volunteer led Helpline for all to use, and are currently developing a wellbeing programme to help our community manage the often damaging impact of their conditions
