Central provides outstanding preparation for a sustainable career in the performing arts. We are seeking to widen access to this training; financial assistance for students’ increasing living costs helps to break down the barriers which deter applicants from groups underrepresented in the industry.

    Situation

Central is responsible for a significant pipeline of talent coming into the performing arts industries, so it is vital that we can attract a diverse group of students who can tell a wide variety of stories that reflect us all. However, our research tells us that the high costs of studying in London and the ongoing cost of living crisis are sadly deterring potential students from applying, and increasing drop out rates, dashing their dreams of studying at Central.

    Solution

We respond to this problem by offering Scholarships and Bursaries to support students who are struggling with financial pressures arising from their studies. We seek out the most diverse range possible of young people to study at Central; our outreach team visit secondary schools across the UK, particularly in tertiary education cold spots. The knowledge that they are able to receive assistance with living and study costs really encourages applicants from all backgrounds.
