With the effects of the pandemic combining with the cost-of-living crisis, to exacerbate the number of children experiencing mental health struggles, Dandelion Time’s waiting list has surged. Referrals have increased by over 40% and we need to continue the expansion of our therapeutic programme.

Situation
It’s estimated that 58,993 children in Kent live in households where there is a prevalence of any of the so called ‘toxic trio’; domestic abuse, mental health problems or substance dependency. Many of these children lack access to the help they desperately need to prevent permanent school exclusion, family breakdown or mental health challenges. The most recent statistics show that Kent has one of the highest school exclusions rates in England.
Solution
Health, education and social care services face huge financial pressures and aren’t always the right solution for struggling children: Dandelion Time fills this much-needed gap. The service is considered a critical and effective intervention to help children overcome complex difficulties and re-engage with education, community and family life. With a reduction in support services regionally for vulnerable children and families in recent years, Dandelion Time has become more vital than ever.
