Re-engage works with older people aged 75+ who have become extremely isolated, helping them meet new people in person, or over the phone. Please donate now and, together with our dedicated volunteers, help provide regular meaningful companionship to relieve the misery of loneliness.

Situation
More than a million people over the age of 75 in the UK say they go over a month without speaking to anyone. Imagine the toll that can take on a person, both physically and mentally. Being lonely is miserable and studies have shown that lonely people are more likely to suffer from dementia, heart disease and depression. It has become a social disease that robs too many of their joy. “It feels like a rejection, that you’re sitting here all by yourself and nobody wants to talk to you.”
Solution
We work within local communities to set up social gatherings for small groups of people aged 75 and over, that bring real pleasure through conversation, laughter and, crucially, give them something to look forward to. For older people who find it difficult to leave their home, we match them with one of our friendly volunteer call companions, who provide company over the phone. They love a good chat and they’re great listeners too.
