Veterans’ lives are changed instantly after injury. Many struggle to make sense of what happened & cope with the long-term impact of amputations/disability. Your support will help them gain skills to share their stories to improve wellbeing, build resilience, combat isolation & inspire communities.

    Situation

Blesma supports 2,600+ Members - limbless/injured veterans & their widow(er)s. Older Members have lived with life-changing injuries for many years. Some suffered amputations due to long-term health conditions. Younger veterans have complex injuries, requiring through-life support. A recent survey found that 72% of respondents experienced poor mental health in the last decade. Long-term effects of the pandemic & ongoing cost of living crisis continue to impact Members’ physical/mental wellbeing.

    Solution

Our new Storytelling & Wellbeing project will support 150 participants to make sense of their stories, while connecting & building friendships with fellow veterans/widow(er)s who understand their experiences. Through 39 professionally delivered workshops, participants will gain confidence/communication skills & feel empowered to share their stories to build resilience, strengthen family ties & combat isolation. They will be encouraged to share their stories to support/inspire their communities.
