Environmental human rights defenders (EHRDs) bravely confront unprecedented levels of violence, intimidation, persecution & death while opposing destructive extractive industries & illegal activities harming ecosystems, communities & livelihoods. Many victims, including Indigenous individuals, face assassination every year. Yet, defenders persist with unwavering determination to safeguard forests, biodiversity & people. To aid their vital work, they need support to overcome these challenges.
Solution
RFUK supports frontline defenders in Africa by providing training, technology & advocacy assistance. ForestLink, our forest monitoring system, enables them to document & report environmental crimes & human rights abuses in real-time, strengthening their evidence base & impact. This empowers communities, enhancing their ability to monitor & protect forests, draw attention to & support for their cause, and promote transparency, accountability & the defence of Indigenous rights
