Situation
We are fortunate to have a wonderful blue and green space like the Edinburgh Union Canal on our doorstep. However, its narrow paths, frequented by runners, cyclists and dog walkers, mean it isn’t accessible to everyone. People with disabilities, mobility issues, or additional support needs can find it challenging to enjoy the canal. We think everyone should be able to enjoy the tranquil surroundings of the canal, and that’s where our canal boat, All Aboard, comes in.
Solution
By using All Aboard as a space for our own services and other community groups, we provide opportunities for children, young people, families and adults to learn, grow and socialise, whilst enjoying a relaxing trip on the canal. Our weekly community trips also help to alleviate some of the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis; providing a safe, inclusive space to keep warm for a few hours; reducing isolation; providing free Wi-Fi & opening the canal to more people in the local community.
