This campaign has now closed
We are raising funds to help people who are in the UK as refugees and asylum seekers. Our aim is to help them with the cost of acquiring skills and qualifications which will increase their opportunities to find work in this country. This will be of benefit to the individuals but also to society.

Situation
The Ruth Hayman Trust receives many applications for the funding of courses leading to qualifications that are necessary for work in the UK. A large proportion of the applicants are people in this country as refugees or asylum seekers who have no means, particularly in the current financial climate, of paying for such courses themselves. Often with quite a small grant, they can make a vital step forward in their own lives, and in their ability to contribute to the general good.
Solution
We would award funds to applicants, in this country as refugees or asylum seekers, embarking on a wide range of vocational courses. Our grants process is rigorous. All awards from the five grants meetings each year depend on the applicant making an excellent case and providing good references. We still find ourselves having to make difficult choices.
