Situation
Survivors with learning disabilities, needs and/or autism have far more potential risk of complex trauma, sexual exploitation and abuse. However, there are limited support services for this particular group of survivors. We support a lot of survivors who may have fallen through cracks in other services, so a lot of their support needs haven't been met. This is why we offer 24 sessions because this group face many other barriers and may need additional support.
Solution
Our Learning Disability and Needs service offers flexible and adaptable support. Survivors have tailored forms of communication and practical support to meet their needs and preferences to help them attend sessions. This bespoke support has been extremely successful for those that engaged with it. Survivors have fed back they feel understood. There is a lack of services which are equipped to support survivors with a range of learning needs, communication needs and understanding levels.
