Young people who are made homeless are more often unprepared and have no experience of finding somewhere to live. They may try sofa surfing or staying with a relative for a while but this may not work out. While some young people have a right to housing support, most won't be given emergency accommodation, leaving them vulnerable to rough sleeping and further harms. At Nightstop we have seen a doubling of demand for emergency accommodation from 2021 to 2022.

On Nightstop a young person can stay with a host in their home on a nightly basis. They are offered a room a meal, the opportunity to shower and wash clothing. The young person can be referred again to Nightstop until they get longer term accommodation. The Nightstop team operate a 24 hour on-call telephone number and are able to offer advice to the young person. We also work alongside other agencies so that the young person receives the support they need at a time of crisis in their life.
