We’re asking for funds for the continuation of our support to some of Sheffield’s most vulnerable children and young people. In 2021/22 46% of the people we supported came from the 10% most deprived areas of Sheffield and between the cost of living crisis & budget cuts, they've never needed us more.

Situation
There are more young carers out there than you think, (approximately 1in12 young people in Sheffield). They take on extra responsibilities, cooking, cleaning, shopping, collecting prescriptions or looking after siblings. It's a lot to take on - 27% of young carers miss school. They're often hidden – 39% said nobody in their school was even aware of their caring responsibilities. Young Carers are often overlooked - with 1 in 3 experiencing mental health problems as a result of their caring.
Solution
Our tailored support reflects the needs and interests identified by the young people (crisis planning; managing emotions; music; environment; equalities; healthy eating; drugs/alcohol issues) and provides a space where they can relax; make friends; develop confidence and build resilience. Our dedicated Young Persons Support Workers co-produce each programme with young carers and each is offered 1-1 support, a term of group activities and the opportunity to join school holiday activities.
