Over half of the mental health challenges adults experience start before the age of 14 (LGA, 2022). WHO (2021) cites 'depression, anxiety & behavioural disorders' as one of the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents. The Health Foundation (2022) note that in 2021 one in six children in England, aged 6-16, probably had a mental health condition. Early Intervention and mental health education is key if children and young people are to thrive and grow into healthy adults.

Educating children in their emotional needs and resources gives them a lifelong toolkit. Suffolk Mind provides comprehensive training for 4–18-year-olds, teaching them how to identify and articulate unmet needs which could lead to poor mental health, & how to seek support. Training includes teachers and parents/carers ensuring a joined-up approach & shared language. School budgets are increasingly stretched, and fully funded training is essential for schools to access this vital training.
