In 2022, 1 in 6 (17%) 7-16 year olds in England had a probable mental disorder – with the number increasing to 1 in 4 (25%) amongst 17-19 year olds. We know that adverse childhood experiences have an impact on the mental health of children and young people, and that inequality underlies many of these risk factors, with young people from the lowest income bracket 4.5 times more likely to experience severe mental health problems than those in the highest.

As a local, independent charity, WLAC is able to offer free, time-unlimited, solution-focused counselling and therapy services to children and young people who may not be able to access similar services elsewhere. Our experienced team of therapists work flexibly with the client and their family, focusing on strengths and building resilience to effect long term change, allowing children and young people to fulfil their potential. Last year we worked with over 500 local families.
