The food service is at the heart of The Good Shepherd. Working with a range of food partners we can ensure food doesn't end up in landfill but is redistributed, cooked or pass on so we can tackle food waste with food hunger. We can also provide other interventions to people who access us for food.

Wolverhampton has real strengths, but it’s also a deprived city with high levels of poverty and inequality putting it in the top 10% of deprived areas in England. These challenges drive our work, and we support people who are marginalised and disadvantaged including people experiencing homelessness, poor mental health, migrants and new communities, unemployed/low incomes, families with support needs, and people with complex and multiple needs. We are open to those who need us, and never judge.

In the last 12 months we have worked with over 1,000 people within our food service. Of these 55% have had other issues which we were able to support them with. These issues were around housing, substance misuse, migrants/asylum seekers, health, and education. More people are requesting support with debt and budgeting as a result of increased utility costs. Also, we are supporting more people at risk of homelessness to maintain their tenancies as we work directly with the landlords.
