3.7 million children in the UK live in households experiencing food poverty - twice as many as a year ago. In London, which has the highest food poverty in the country, families are struggling to feed their children. For children, poor nutrition can result in weaker immune systems and stunted physical development, and in the classroom hunger affects behavioural issues, concentration and mood. In a city where so much food is wasted, this should not be happening.

City Harvest rescues food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it for free to frontline charities who are supporting people across the capital. The money raised from The Big Give Christmas Challenge will provide 400,000 meals and support our 19 Food Rescue Vans to save 168 tonnes of food from waste and deliver it free of charge to our charity partners, improving children's nutrition and ensuring they do not need to go to bed hungry.
