The cost of living crisis has caused more children than ever before to turn to the streets of Jinja, not realising the dangers of life on the streets. With your help, we will reunite 140 children with their families or with a foster family where needed, safely away from the dangers of the streets.

Our recent research shows there has been a significant increase in the number of children (as young as 3) living and working on Jinja’s streets to survive since the 2017 head counting research. This is due to increasing poverty as a result of COVID-19 and Ebola lockdowns and the current spiralling cost of living. Life on the streets is dangerous. Children are abused, forced into child labour or sex work and are at risk of child trafficking. Many turn to drugs to cope with their difficult lives.

We will work with children who have been living on the streets to find them loving family members or a foster family to be resettled with. These children will be supported by our social workers through follow ups and family counselling to give them the best chance of success not to return to the streets. Where required their families will be offered Educational Support or Business Empowerment to help them increase their income to help stop their child/ other children from turning to the streets.
