We are bringing people from across Sheffield together to co-create a spectacular community opera, Jonathan Dove’s ‘The Monster in the Maze’. Help us to achieve this extraordinary collaboration with partners from across the city, and make an amazing show that is for the community, by the community.

Sheffield is known as the City of Makers – a culturally vibrant and creative city with thousands of people making music every day. It is also a divided city. Half of the population live in some of the most deprived regions in the country, and there is a sense of separation from the other half that regularly accesses and participates in the arts. Numerous reports have demonstrated that one of the best ways to bring people together, is for them to create together.

We will bring people of all ages and abilities together from across the city, building cultural bridges to heal this divide. Collaborating with Sheffield Theatres, Sheffield Music Hub, the Sheffield & District African Caribbean Community Association (SADACCA) and Classical Sheffield, this opera will provide a focal point for communities. Passionate people of all ages – musicians, costume makers, stagehands and singers – will work shoulder to shoulder with professionals in a shared experience.
