Many children do not get to experience the joy of live music, and especially live classical music. This is because children from disadvantaged backgrounds do not typically have the same opportunities to access art and culture. Listening to and learning about live classical music can help children in so many ways: as well as developing skills such as concentration and creativity, children can discover new passions and expand their horizons. Most importantly, it also enhances children’s wellbeing.

We are working with 29 schools this year, delivering our programme of interactive classroom workshops and orchestra concerts to 1,700 children. Our programme takes children on an inspirational journey as we gradually introduce them to the instruments of the orchestra, the musicians who play them and the music they play. Children develop their confidence, understanding and enjoyment of classical music, before experiencing a spectacular symphony orchestra concert at Hackney Empire.
