We support disadvantaged young men and women (aged 18-35) to work their way out of poverty through practical construction trade skills, strengthened life-skills and work placements. In 2024, we plan to train at least another 200 young Zambians, bringing the total trained to over 2000.

    Situation

64% of Zambia's population live below the poverty line. Youth unemployment and under-employment is a major challenge with over 300,000 people entering the job market each year. Skills training is only available for 10% of young people leaving school despite a chronic shortage of skills in the building sector. Without access to practical skills training, many are trapped in a cycle of poverty.

    Solution

Build It International provides opportunities for young men and women and their communities to work their way out of poverty through a highly effective, entry-level vocational training programme in construction skills. This has been developed with input from local employers to empower our trainees, increasing their employability through work placements and career development. We also offer life-skills training to ensure they are work-ready with confidence and resilience.
