Spinal cord injury (SCI) is irreversible, meaning lives are turned upside down in a split second. It is a devastating permanent disability that can cause paralysis, dysfunction of the bladder and bowel, constant pain, loss of sensation below the level of injury, loss of sexual function, and complex mental health issues as people are faced with the distressing realist of relearning how to live every day. While SCI results in physical paralysis, we know that its impact extends far beyond the body

Our work is so important because without SIA’s expertise people leave healthcare settings with very little support or understanding of their condition and the options available, which has a long-term effect on their quality of life and future prospects. Our vision is a fulfilled life for everyone affected by spinal cord injury, our network of services, through a team of experts, empower the SCI community by advising, educating, supporting and campaigning.
