We believe theatre can transform children’s lives from the start. The Unicorn is creating a programme for children aged 6 months-5 years, and their grown-ups, that will give under-resourced families the space to play and enhance our ability to produce theatre that inspires the youngest imaginations.

Creative play is key to a child’s development, allowing them to make sense of the world through their imagination and understand emotions. Yet, creative play opportunities are limited for under-resourced families, depriving both children and parents of chances for interpersonal and creative development. Early parenthood can be isolating, and we want to ensure families from our locality can build connections with their children, our theatre, and fellow parents.

A new programme of activity for children aged 6 months – 5 year and their grown ups. These workshops will see families collaborating with Unicorn Theatre artists, facilitators and play specialists to develop the Unicorn’s Early Years productions. All work will take place outside of formal education settings, with a focus on health and wellbeing, and will be supported by child development specialists.
