Scottish Women’s Aid (SWA) is a feminist organisation that works to end domestic abuse in Scotland. We are both a women’s rights organisation and a children’s rights organisation. The rights of children are inextricably intertwined to the rights of their mothers, and we work to make this visible across policies, systems and communities to better protect all women and all children from domestic abuse.

Situation
1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, 1 in 5 children live with domestic abuse. For mothers and their children, the cost-of-living crisis is creating barriers to safely leave domestic abuse. Soaring energy and food costs, stagnant wages, inadequate social security and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on women—all provide tools for abusers to entrap women. Shrinking incomes and spiralling costs force women into fewer choices about leaving or returning to abusers.
Solution
SWA advocates for long lasting changes to policy and practice so that all women and children are safe from domestic abuse. We amplify the voices of children and young people affected by domestic abuse to ensure that their ideas and experiences are reflected in the policies are services that impact their lives. We lead bold campaigns calling for changes to policy and practice and support each local women's aid service to maximise its benefit to the children and women who need the service most.
