We are seeking support to enable D/deaf, blind and partially sighted/hearing audiences across the UK to watch films made by filmmakers of marginalised genders in the cinema. We’ll do this by providing descriptive subtitles and audio description for the films, and Live Captioning wraparound activity.

Films made by people of marginalised genders don’t reach the audiences they deserve. Film influences our society & a dominant male perspective is damaging. Seeing a range of experiences encourages empathy. Lack of access is amplified for d/Deaf, blind, & partially sighted audiences, as there is often no descriptive subtitling or audio description provided for small releases. They inspire women, trans & non-binary people & this benefit should be available to as many as possible.

By creating access for d/Deaf, blind and partially sights people to two films made by people of marginalised genders, which they wouldn’t otherwise see. We’ll also Live Caption our events at these screenings (we have a welcoming wider community where people feel safe to join in & lead conversations/reflections). The aim is to support increased confidence, feelings of wellbeing, a sense of belonging & inclusion through creating a safe space & platform to share their voices & lived experiences.
