Girls in the slums of Kampala, Uganda’s capital, are under attack-with more experiencing violence, missing out on education & being pushed further into extreme poverty. Schools were closed for 2 years during the pandemic, & 60%+ of girls experienced sexual violence during this time. Child motherhood soared. Pregnant girls are shamed & struggle to return to school or access healthcare. HIV levels are high, two thirds of all new HIV infections are found in adolescent girls yet <30% receive testing
Designed in consultation with girls themselves we provide specialist, effective solutions addressing their unique needs, responsibilities & perspectives. Supporting child mothers & survivors of violence in 4 key ways: 1. a refuge for girls escaping violence 2. Access to 'girl-friendly' post-rape care, safe motherhood & sexual health services 3. Fast tracking out-of-school girls back into education 4. Providing vocational skills & business training so they can gain skills to earn an income.
