Her Centre supports women and girls in need. We want to support girls 13 to 19 years old who have experienced abuse. We will provide one to one support to be safe, recover their self esteem, understand consent and what makes a healthy relationship. We will also provide learning in schools.

    Situation

Abuse of girls both in person and online has increased dramatically. 1 in 5 teenage girls experiences abuse when dating, and more 16 to 19 year old girls experience abuse than women 25 and over. Social media has given more access to pornography for children and access to each other to harass and abuse from sharing private photos to grooming children into sexual relationships with older boys and men. We want to support girls who have been abused to find the strength to leave abuse and feel strong

    Solution

We will provide one to one support to girls 13 to 19 years old with a trained Young Girls Independent Abuse Advocate, who will cover consent, healthy relationships, recovering self esteem, staying safe online and also help address issues with schools and family members to ensure girls are safe and supported to stay safe. The Advocate will meet with the girls over 6 to 10 sessions, and refer girls to therapeutic trauma counselling where needed. We will also work in schools to raise awareness.
