People with neurological conditions are twice as likely to have mental health conditions compared to the general population: 62% of our clients say they regularly struggle with depression or anxiety. 54% are affected by social isolation and say they are regularly lonely. The pandemic and cost-of-living crisis have hugely impacted our community’s mental health. The waiting list for our counselling service currently has more than 100 names, and the average wait is 4 months.
We will use the funds raised to deliver group counselling courses. Sessions will focus on a variety of techniques and tools that empower people and help them better manage their mental health, such as: Mindfulness. Managing mental health with a neurological? condition. Coping with stress. Increasing confidence levels. Sessions will be delivered by trained counsellors. The sessions will be social—many people prefer group counselling because of the opportunity for peer support.
