Women experiencing financial difficulties are more likely to struggle with mental health issues. BWC needs to raise vital funds to make mental health support more accessible for vulnerable women suffering the devastating effects of the cost of living crisis on their mental health and well-being.

74% of women who contacted BWC’s counselling service last year wanted help with anxiety and stress. 62% wanted help with depression. The women we support are often coping with complex issues that impact their mental health including insecure housing, low incomes, trauma, physical health conditions and isolation. Seen as too complex to be eligible for statutory therapy services, most can’t afford to pay for mental health support or struggle to access it because of a lack of things like childcare.

BWC has been providing one-to-one support for vulnerable women for over 45 years. Trained staff assess the needs of each woman, and understand the barriers she may face in order to offer a holistic, accessible package of support. We create safe, trauma-informed spaces where women increase coping skills, gain social connection and reduce long-term mental health issues. This strengthens each woman’s ability to navigate other challenges she may face including housing, finances and family issues.
