Shout is the UK's only free, confidential and 24/7 text support service for anyone in mental health crisis. Situation

Rates of anxiety and depression have increased by 70% in the last 25 years, alongside a concerning increase in suicide - rates among young people rose by 32% between 2012-2019. Over the past five years, anxiety, the theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2023, has consistently been one of the most common reasons people contact Shout. Those texting about anxiety are also often experiencing low mood, loneliness and thoughts of self-harm or suicide. They mostly contact us after 6pm, when other services are closed. As a 24/7 service, Shout is there around the clock, for anyone who needs us.

    Solution

Every minute, someone reaches out to Shout for support with a mental health crisis and has a conversation that could save their life. Trained volunteers and clinicians are there round the clock to support texters whenever they need, listening without judgement and helping them to a calmer state. During Mental Health Awareness Week, we expect to help more than 10,000 people in crisis.
