In a recent survey of young people accessing accommodation and support at YMCA Crewe, a third were medically diagnosed with a mental health problem, and a further third identified as having issues with their mental health but were still awaiting diagnosis. It is vital that we work with our residents to help them improve their mental health and wellbeing before we progress to helping them build up the key independent living skills they will need to move into their own permanent accommodation.

We run a variety of activities ensuring each resident’s mental health is supported in a way that works for them. We run a programme of engagement work including group discussions, physical activities and creative sessions that help boost mental wellbeing and give our residents an outlet to start exploring different hobbies and interests. While participating in these sessions, residents have the space to discuss potential issues with their mental health and explore further support options.
