Situation
It's known that adult learning fosters a sense of identity, a feeling of purpose in life, a greater level of wellbeing, & an increase in satisfaction. It's also associated with higher levels of interpersonal trust, social connections & community engagement. There are, however, many barriers that stop learning-disabled adults from being able to access these opportunities, including: inaccessible teaching methods, social isolation, financial barriers, and lack of confidence/wellbeing.
Solution
Our Lifelong Learning Programmes across Yorkshire work to a custom written Scheme of Work; this ensures that the structure & content of our activity is tailored to the specific needs of our varied learners. Our learning is delivered using The Purple Patch Approach to inclusive education; this uses art to engage learners, and support understanding of complex subjects. Our skilled staff work with a sense of adventure, adapting to needs, and creating spaces where people thrive.
