Womankind’s helpline is a confidential telephone and webchat support service run by women for women in Bristol and the surrounding area. With your help, we seek to increase the capacity of the service so we can meet the rising demand of women and girls seeking help when they need it the most.

    Situation

    Womankind recognises the devastating impact that mental health challenges have on women. Every week, women and girls contact our helpline because they are struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, trauma, domestic or sexual abuse, miscarriage, bereavement and more. These problems often impact on their capacity to look after themselves, to work, connect with others, and be happy. Demand for our helpline is at a record high, we have handled 6,523 calls in the last 12 months.

    Solution

    Our helpline volunteers provide non-judgemental listening support. Women and girls can contact the helpline for any reason but often do so in times of crisis, or to disclose traumatic experiences to someone they can trust. To meet the growing demand, we must recruit and train more volunteers to take these important calls. This will help us meet the scale of need, ensuring every call is answered, and that each volunteer can provide appropriate support to the women and girls who confide in us.
