Situation
Many women living with trauma are experiencing mental health crisis. Already facing challenges including addiction and violence, the COVID pandemic and cost-of-living crisis have added the further pressures of isolation, financial hardship, and fuel poverty. Support agencies that could help are increasingly stretched, with women waiting weeks for appointments in high levels of crisis. Last year, 96% of women who received support from One25 caseworkers had significant mental health needs.
Solution
Healing is rarely a linear journey and each woman’s experience is unique. It could include leaving an abusive relationship or getting counselling. Our caseworkers support women to take the steps that are right for them: identifying goals and building relationships with services such as housing and the NHS. They also help these service providers respond sensitively to trauma women have experienced. Last year 127 women were supported to access other agencies including 44 mental health referrals.
