Help us save lives by reaching more people who self-harm and are at risk of suicide. We want to expand our UK-wide multi-channel helpline to reach twice as many people as last year. With your support we can open two more sessions of our helpline each week, supporting an extra 2000 people this year.

Self-harm is a significant problem in the UK with 6% of adults and 10% of young people reporting they have used self-harm. People use self-harm to deal with high levels of emotional distress often related to trauma and abuse, including racism, homophobia, transphobia and ableism and are 20 times more likely to die by suicide than people who don't self-harm. Yet research shows that 50% of people who self-harm don't seek any medical support and deal with their distress and self-harm all alone.

We know a positive first experience of help seeking is a key factor in people subsequently seeking out further help around self-harm and getting the help they need. By expanding our multi-channel support service we can ensure that more people have the chance to take that first step of reaching out for help and being met with compassion and kindness. Evaluations show that 70% of people using our multi-channel support reduce or stop using self-harm and feel less suicidal following our support.
