Brixton has the highest rate of violence, notably youth violence, in London. Violence is fuelled by social deprivation and fractured communities. We are raising money to increase the number of activities we can offer young people in Brixton, particularly over the summer holidays.

Brixton has the highest rates of violence in London. Youth violence is rising and only 1 in 10 cases are solved. It is fuelled by the widespread deprivation; high poverty and unemployment, high school exclusion rates, poor housing, and minimal social provision due to local authority funding cuts. Young people feel powerless, trapped and frustrated, and resort to violence. This in turn stops people going out and mixing, which in turn builds greater divides and perpetuates the cycle of violence.
CHIPS aims to break the cycle of violence using a holistic approach that includes young people, their families, and the other institutions that play a role in their life. Through the provision of creative activities, CHIPS will help to bring young people together, give them space to explore the issues that are affecting their lives, and relieve the stress on their family (particularly when needing childcare during the summer holidays). To create stronger community cohesion, reducing violence.
