Situation
One in two people who contact SANE feel they have no-one else to turn to. Why is this the case? The NHS is not keeping up with the demand for mental health services. Thousands of people are currently left unsupported. It's reported people waited as long as 182 days between talking therapy appointments in areas like Bristol. Those living with severe mental illness, like bipolar or PTSD, can wait up to two years for treatment. Sadly, people can become so desperate and lonely, they turn suicidal.
Solution
SANE bridges the gap by providing "time", something the overburdened NHS cannot. SANEline is a safe space where anyone affected by mental illness, individuals, family members or carers, can call to receive the emotional support they desperately need. SANEline also runs a Call Back service. The psychological impact of being called back rather than struggling to get through to helplines results in building a relationship of trust, helps to sustain people and keeps them from reaching crisis point.
