Bats are a vital part of our natural heritage and they make up a quarter of all mammal species in the UK. Despite this, they are widely misunderstood and undervalued. We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to learn about bats and get involved in bat conservation.

    Situation

Despite being a key part of a healthy environment and ecosystem, bats are more often than not see as an inconvenience and a nuisance (e.g. despite providing a valuable service by eating insects, some agricultural practices can have a detrimental impact on bats) or as a block for building planning and development. At the same time a lot of people are also completely unaware of bats or have negative misconceptions. All of which has a detrimental effect on bat conservation.

    Solution

We want to tackle the lack of awareness by empowering more people from diverse backgrounds to take action and be able to change attitudes towards bats. We also want to continue to educate and inform professionals as well as to ensure future generations are able to live in a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together.
