Future Sound supports 11-18s in Hackney who lack access to quality music education due to family circumstances and/or background. By learning from professional musicians they can relate to, young people improve their musical ability and soft skills needed for a successful future.

    Situation

Minoritised young people face inequity in access to music education due to disruptive home lives, familial pressure to pursue traditional qualifications, and cost. According to UK Music, only 15% of children at state schools receive sustained music tuition, compared to 50% at independent schools. At a minimum 50% of Future Sound participants will be eligible for Pupil Premium & 50% from Global Majority backgrounds, targeting those without access to music projects.

    Solution

We provide visibility, access and opportunities for 11-18s by connecting them with inspiring, professional musicians they can relate to. Musicians lead workshops showing it's possible to have a career in the music industry, which is often closed to all but the most privileged. We inspire lifelong engagement with music and the arts, build confidence, resilience and life skills needed for a successful future. Future Sound will benefit 60 young people directly and 400 indirectly via performances.
