    Situation

Only 47% of rivers in the Dee catchment are in good ecological health and all fail to meet chemical standards. Sewage treatment works, storm overflows, industry, septic-tanks, urban run-off and single-use plastic pollution are major environmental problems facing the River Dee. Each has many sources and the pathways they take to the river can be hard to identify. These sources of pollution are a challenging problem that we cannot solve without supporting communities to take action.

    Solution

As a charity that prioritises actions, Welsh Dee Trust will equip local communities to take an active role in identifying and fixing the sources of pollution entering the Dee. The specific, actionable ways to get involved, from river cleanups to citizen science training, targeted drain improvements and ongoing monitoring, provide a clear participation pathway for individuals and groups to become custodians of their local river, identifying and tackling sources of water pollution.
