As droughts increase, there is more reliance on groundwater sources. By its very nature water underground is difficult to monitor and manage and without monitoring the use of this water, overuse is a real concern leaving many without any water sources at all. Monitoring large geographical areas is also expensive and challenging, and tools can be expensive to source and use.
With our simple data collection mobile phone application, technicians can send data directly to water management authorities, painting a real time picture of regional groundwater resources. Capacity building of water management authorities will enable them to identify vulnerable areas exceeding sustainable water use and take preventive actions against groundwater supplies drying up when they are most needed after prolong surface droughts.
