Putting the heart back into our area's local parks by transforming them from intensively mown deserts into biodiverse-rich, inclusive green spaces, that improve the lives of the local community and encourage wildlife to grow and flourish.

Beneficiaries
We have a large number of local community parks which, due to funding cuts, are just barren green fields, devoid of wildlife and people. Housing targets have made these parks isolated islands meaning wildlife is failing to flourish, thin soil and a lack of planting means more localised flooding, and an unloved area is increasing instances of anti-social behaviour. Coupled with this, as many as 32% of households in our most deprived areas do not have access to a garden but nowhere safe to go.
Working in 15 parks in some of our area's most densely populated & deprived parts, and in partnership with people from the local community, we are creating wildlife ponds and community growing areas, planting natives hedges, trees and orchards, and are running a large range of free and low-cost activities which show how to make a positive impact on nature. Our Park Activators' role is to lead these transformations, to monitor wildlife, and to help instil an appreciation for nature in others.
